At the UQ, I am Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ladal.edu.au\">Language Technology and Data Analysis Laboratory (LADAL)<\/a> (together with Michael Haugh) and I would consider myself a quantitative corpus linguist specialized in computational analyses of text and speech. In my research, I aim to combine and bridge the gap between computational linguistics and corpus linguistics.<\/p>\n<p>I am steering committee member and Chief Investigator (CI) of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ldaca.edu.au\/\">Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA)<\/a> where I focus on producing resources and training through LADAL. LDaCA aims at establishing\u00a0 language data infrastructures and text analytics upskilling resources in Australia and it has received substantive funding from the <a href=\"https:\/\/ardc.edu.au\/\">Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC)<\/a>. I am Associate Editor of the <a href=\"https:\/\/alaa.net.au\/ARALJournal\"><em>Australian Review of Applied Linguistics<\/em> (ARAL)<\/a> and book series editor for the Bloomsbury series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbury.com\/au\/series\/language-data-science-and-digital-humanities\/\"><em>Language, Data Science and Digital Humanities<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0Finally, I am also Vice-President Profession of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isle-linguistics.org\/\">International Society for the Linguistics of English (ISLE)<\/a> and re-elected board member of <a href=\"https:\/\/icame.info\/\"><span class=\"ILfuVd NA6bn\"><span class=\"hgKElc\">The International Computer Archive of Modern and Medieval English (ICAME). <\/span><\/span><\/a>Regarding my background, I have a PhD in English linguistics and I studied at the\u00a0 Universit\u00e4t Kassel, Germany, where I graduated in 2008 with an MA in English Philology, Philosophy, and Psychology.
